My Favorite Holiday Meals

Christmas 2.jpeg

Because I grew up in Costa Rica, my traditions are probably very different from a lot of yours. Costa Rica does not celebrate Thanksgiving, therefore when I was growing up, I never had the traditional Thanksgiving dinner. At the end of November, we were all starting to get ready for Christmas, eating Christmas treats and decorating our houses.

The big holiday dinner for my family was Christmas Eve. Christmas day we also had a big celebration, with a big lunch. We would all gather as a family, including my extended family, and we ate Honey Baked Ham, Turkey, Stuffing, Salad, Sweet Potato casserole and Wild Rice. For dessert we have always had Apple Pie, and this cake made in a famous bakery in Costa Rica called Torta Chilena. It was a combination between the traditional Thanksgiving dinner in the United States and some of our Costa Rican traditional dishes.

Some of my favorite Holiday treats (including Thanksgiving treats that I have discovered since I moved to the United States) are the following:

  • Homemade Eggnog!

  • Apple Pie

  • Torta Chilena

  • Pumpkin Cake Roll

  • Cranberry & White Chocolate Scones

  • Spiked Apple Cider

  • Peppermint or Caramel Hot Chocolate

  • Turkey

  • Sweet Potato Casserole (with Marshmallows on top!)

Starting this week I will start cooking a lot of these recipes and sharing them with you guys on the recipe section! Trying to make some healthy holiday recipes for all of you :)
